Reflections

Have you ever seen a first-year medical resident? Coffee in hand, a pile of books on the table, puffy eyes, and looking lean from sleepless nights. One gap in their knowledge could cost a patient’s life so they study relentlessly, knowing that lives depend on them, but also holding on to the hope that this season of sacrifice is only temporary. In the same way, the value you place on the lives God has entrusted to you in ministry will determine how seriously you take your calling. The difference between eternal life and eternal condemnation comes down to knowledge. This is why we must never compromise when it comes to delivering the truth — the undiluted word of God. We cannot lower the standard to make it palatable for the world. It is, quite literally, a matter of life and death.

In the course of serving God, we will undoubtedly face suffering and persecution. Sometimes it comes from the sacrifices we make in consecrating ourselves to God. Other times it comes from the very people we are called to serve. At times, it is the direct result of obeying a difficult instruction from God and we endure it because of the worth we’ve placed on the gospel.

Take heart in this: no matter how dark or difficult it seems, it will pass and you will overcome. Even more, every trial transforms you into a stronger, wiser person for the future. We press on, not because suffering is pleasant, but because of the glory it produces in us. There is no situation, when surrendered to God, that won’t ultimately work out for your good and His glory.
