Reflections

The book of Romans is a profound exposition of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Paul begins with a powerful reminder of our identity in Christ:

“You also are among those who are called to belong to Jesus Christ” (Romans 1:6).

What a beautiful truth! I am loved by God, and because of His love, He called me out of the crowd to be His own. This is the foundation of the good news: God’s love for His people compels Him to offer us salvation and set us apart for Himself.

One of the most remarkable aspects of Christianity is that God calls us before we are saints. We are not chosen because we are already holy; rather, we are called to become saints. God’s love reaches us before we can do anything to earn it. His grace is unmerited, His mercy undeserved, and His calling irrevocable. When you find yourself unable to partake in certain things with the world because of your calling in Christ, remember that this is a mark of His love. The privilege of consecration is a gift of His affection. To be set apart is to be cherished by God—a sign that we belong to Him.

As you journey through the book of Romans, let this truth guide your thoughts: you are among the heirs of God’s promise, chosen and set apart to belong to Jesus. This is your identity and your calling.
