Today’s reading: Romans 6:1-23

Redeemed

〰️

Redeemed 〰️

Reflections

The dictionary defines redemption as gaining possession of something or someone in exchange for payment. When Christ gave His life for us, He purchased us, taking possession of us. This means we are now His—servants of Christ and, by extension, servants of righteousness.

But what does it mean to no longer be bound to sin? It means that sin no longer controls you—you now have the power to control it. Before redemption, sin was your nature, and you couldn’t help but succumb to it. Now, through grace, you are empowered to resist sin and live in victory over it.

You can no longer say, “I didn’t know what I was doing,” or “The devil made me do it.” Why? Because the Holy Spirit now dwells within you, serving as an inward witness, guiding and reminding you of the truth. If you choose to do what is right, you now have the power to follow through.

Just as you were once committed—consciously or unconsciously—to doing what was wrong, you are now called to an even greater commitment: to pursue righteousness. Make a deliberate choice each day to serve your new Master, righteousness, and live a life that reflects your redemption in Christ.

Study Questions

  1. According to the passage, how does Paul explain the relationship between baptism and salvation? Do a quick topical study on baptism.

  2. What is the meaning of Grace? Use a Bible lexicon to study the different meanings of “Charin” and “Charisma”. How does this add more meaning to the passage?

  3. What is Reconciliation? Use a bible dictionary to study this concept. Give an answer to Paul’s question in 6:15 and explain why or why not.

  4. What did you learn about God’s nature, His ways and His will from today’s reading?

Highlight

“Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭6:‭13 ‭NIV
