Reflections
The divinity of Jesus is one of the most debated topics across various religions. Many acknowledge Jesus as a great figure, yet refuse to accept His divine nature. However, in this passage, Jesus provides profound insight into His divinity—specifically, His relationship with God the Father. He equates Himself with God while explaining how they are distinct in roles, subordinate to each other yet equally honor each other. Jesus does only the work the Father has sent Him to do, bringing glory to the Father in all His actions. In turn, the Father has made Jesus the judge of all things, ensuring that all will honor the Son. This beautiful portrayal highlights a loving, harmonious relationship between the Father and the Son. The Son cannot do anything of His own accord, what makes you think you can do life on your own? The Son follows after the Father for everything. Just as the Son does nothing on His own, but only follows the Father’s will, we, too, are called to depend on God in all areas of our lives. Understanding the relationship within the Trinity can also guide us in our own earthly relationships.
