Integrity

Integrity 〰️

Reflections

One of the most damaging things a believer can do is cause someone else to lose faith or stop trusting God. As representatives of Christ on earth, our lives should reflect His character, especially when we hold positions of authority or influence. You can conduct your business with such a lack of integrity that it turns people away from the gospel. You can be so unreliable at work that it leads others to mock the faith you openly profess. As parents, your children are watching — your neglect of commitments, lack of care, or unfaithfulness can distort their understanding of God as a trustworthy Father.

While our actions alone aren’t enough to preach the gospel, they can certainly work against it, becoming a stumbling block that causes others to doubt or reject it. God is faithful and as His children, we are called to reflect that same faithfulness. Let your “yes” be yes and your “no” be no. Even when no one is watching and you could easily get away with compromise, choose integrity. God Himself didn’t owe us anything, yet He went to great lengths to prove His trustworthiness. He swore by Himself and made unbreakable promises when He gave us Jesus (Hebrews 6:13-18), and He fulfilled every one of them. He has further guaranteed Christ’s return by giving us the Holy Spirit as a seal. This is what it means to be faithful — to be constant, reliable, and true, just as our God is.

Study Questions

  1. Why was it important for Paul to explain his change of travel plans in verses 15-17? What accusations or misunderstandings was he addressing?

  2. Examine verses 21-22 — what does Paul mean by saying God “establishes us,” “anoints us,” “seals us,” and “gives us the Spirit”? How do these acts of God affirm our security and identity in Christ?

  3. What did you learn about God’s nature, His ways and His will from today’s reading?

Highlight

“For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.” ‭‭1 Corinthians 1:20 ESV
