Day 53

Today’s reading: John 21:1-25

Feed My Lamb

〰️

Feed My Lamb 〰️

Reflections

The natural response to loving Jesus is to feed His lambs. Imagine visiting your best friend or sibling who has children and walking in without acknowledging them. That would hurt your friend. In fact, if you truly love that person, their children naturally become dear to you as well, maybe even call them your children as well. How much more with God?

Pay close attention to the word Jesus used when questioning Peter—agapao. Even when Peter responded with phileo, Jesus repeated His question using agapao, emphasizing the depth of love required. If Christ has loved us to the point of death, we must love Him in return by laying everything aside to do His will.

The first question Jesus asked was comparative: “Do you love Me more than these?” How much do you love God in comparison to the most important thing in your life? Don’t rush to answer. Think deeply and be honest—with yourself and with God. Are you willing to lay aside your own ways to follow His, or are there things you are still holding on to that prevent total surrender and service to Him? If the answer is no, that’s okay. This is an opportunity to be honest with God and ask Him to help you love Him fully. If we truly love Jesus, we will not ignore the needs of His children.

Study Questions

  1. The book of John highlights Jesus’ sacrificial love through His service to others. Are there areas in your life where you sense God calling you to embody this same selfless love in serving others?

  2. What does it truly mean to feed and tend Jesus’ lambs?

  3. Why didn’t any of the disciples recognize Jesus?

  4. What did you learn about God’s nature, His ways and His will from today’s reading?

Highlight

“He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in, because of the quantity of fish.” ‭‭John‬ ‭21:6 ESV
