Reflections
You can have full assurance of salvation. God calls you, saying, “Believe in Me, and you will be saved.” You respond in obedience and truly believe. But then, you slip up and commit an offense while still genuinely believing in Jesus. Could that nullify your salvation?
If it could, wouldn’t that make God a liar? Yes, God is not pleased with our sins, but that alone does not undo the finished work of Christ. In fact, God Himself has promised to keep us in Him until the end. This is the very point Paul emphasizes to the Corinthians in the first chapter of his letter. Even though he later goes on to correct their excesses, he assures them that God remains with them and that they still belong to Him.
Having this mindset allows us to accept correction without slipping into self-condemnation or defensiveness. The God who called you and made you holy through Jesus tells you to depend on His grace, not your works. And that same God is faithful to keep you sanctified by His grace until the very end. It is He who gives us both the power to will and to do His pleasure. We can be confident in this because God is faithful.
